Oxford University Press US Employees Unionize

New York-based employees at Oxford University Press USA have unionized. In a statement, the employees listed the concerns as:

  • Job security in a diverse workplace;

  • Dignified salary and benefits that keep pace with cost of living;

  • Defined job responsibilities, reporting structures, workload & company policies;

  • Improved career development and evaluative processes; and

  • Comprehensive action to resolve issues of sexual harassment & the longstanding, unsustainable rate of attrition.

Oxford University Press is just one of several media companies in recent months to unionize. Just yesterday, The New Yorker’s union reached a deal with Condé Nast after threatening to strike. In March, Duke University Press stated that it is looking into organizing a union.
