Last week, HarperCollins and a union of nearly 250 employees reached a tentative agreement. The union had asked for better family leave benefits, a more diverse workforce, and higher pay (by asking HC to increase its minimum starting salary from $45,000 to $50,000). The agreement increases pay in several departments at HC and gives a $1,500 bonus to union members. If the deal is ratified, it will last through the end of 2025.
The deal comes on the heels of other big 5 publishers increasing their minimum salaries. Earlier this month, Macmillan announced it would increase its minimum salary from $42,000 to $47,500, and Hachette recently announced it would increased its minimum salary from $45,000 to $47,500.
