On Monday, Pearson Education this week filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the textbook service Chegg. Specifically, Pearson claims that Chegg's subscription study service, which offers end-of-chapter homework questions "uses precisely the same unit, chapter, and topic orders and naming conventions for the questions employed in the [Pearson] textbooks" which infringes Pearson's end-of-chapter textbook questions. The complaint alleges that 150 textbooks were infringed, but Pearson's lawyers say that is just a fraction of the alleged copyright infringement, with Chegg offering end-of-chapter homework questions for 9,000 textbooks.
